Kumaria honey, called the honey of the century - rarely produced, almost "every 100 years" in Corsica, France and exported exclusively to wealthy Arab countries.
In Greece, it is produced almost every year in Peloponnese and Halkidiki, and particularly stimulates food for humans and bees.

According to the Fur Institut Honig - Analytik, Bremen, Munich and Kraft, it contains:

  • 0.0% sucrose (common sugar)
  • 36.1% fructose
  • 28.9% glucose
  • 1.7% maltose
  • 1% turanose
  • 19.5% humidity
  • pH 4.5

It has a low sugar content and is good for diabetics.

In 1980, Michael X. Fotopoulos, together with his wife Maria Fotopoulos, began timidly as amateurs with five beehives in the garden of their home in Akritochori Messinia.

The honey produced was just enough for the needs of their family, for their three children Christina, Antonia and the younger Haralambos, close relatives and dear friends. After a few years, Michael and Maria decided to become professional honey producers. Sharing the wonderful taste and nutritional values with all their loved ones.
Thus, in 1983, the five beehives grew to 200 and moved from the garden of their home to the Mani region and the Taygetos mountains.

The excellent quality of their products attracted new customers while maintaining traditional production. All offer the generous and beneficial advantages of honey and other pure products (pollen, royal jelly and fragrant mountain herbs).

In 1994, his son Harry Fotopoulos took over the business and participated in training seminars, acquiring the appropriate knowledge for the profession, which, along with the art and his parents, continued the secret of success. His parents continue to approach the production of honey and all its derivatives, the development of the company and participation in the most important honey festivals with great enthusiasm and passion. It is currently registered with the Kalamata beekeepers' cooperative.

ISO 22000:2005 certificate.
Fotopoulos Beekeeping "Meli Taygetos" obtained ISO 22000:2005 certification for the production, packaging and marketing of beekeeping products on January 8, 2009.
