In 1980, Michael X. Fotopoulos and his wife Maria Fotopoulos tentatively began as amateurs with five beehives in the garden of their home in Akritochori Messinia.
The honey produced was enough for their family's needs, for their three children Christina, Antonia and the younger Haralambos, relatives and dear friends. Michael and Maria decided after a few years that they would transition from amateurs to professional honey producers. Sharing the wonderful taste and nutritional values with all their loved ones.
So, in 1983, five beehives became 200, and they moved from the garden of their home to the Mani region and the Taygetos mountains.
The excellent quality of their products allowed them to acquire new customers while maintaining traditional production methods. All of them provide the generous and beneficial advantages of honey and other pure products (pollen, royal jelly and fragrant mountain herbs).
In 1994, his son Harry Fotopoulos took over the business and attended training seminars, gaining the appropriate knowledge for the profession, which, along with the art and his parents, continued the secret of success. The parents continue to approach the production of honey and all its derivatives with great enthusiasm and passion, developing the company and participating in the most important honey festivals. It is currently registered with the Kalamata Beekeepers Cooperative.
ISO 22000:2005 certified.
Fotopoulos Beekeeping "Meli Taygetos" obtained ISO 22000:2005 certification for the production, packaging and marketing of beekeeping products on January 8, 2009.
